Admissions

KNBS is an 11-18 Comprehensive School for boys.  Admission is principally at age 11 although many students join the Sixth Form at age 16 and occasional vacancies occur at other ages. The information set out here is about admission at age 11; please contact the school office for details about admissions at other ages.

Please apply on the Local Education Authority papers for a place at this school.  (This is a change; we no longer have our own application forms).

The distance from home to school will be measured in a straight line from the front door of the school by the Admissions Office of Birmingham LEA.  It is not possible to predict how close to the school successful applicants will live.

A description of Appeals and Waiting List Procedures will be available from the school for unsuccessful applicants who still hope for a place at KNBS.

If you would like any assistance or advice about your application, please contact us; we are keen to help in any way we can.

ADMISSION OF PUPILS FOR ENTRY IN SEPTEMBER 2004

POLICY AND NUMBERS

Pupils will be admitted at age 11 without reference to ability or aptitude.  The number of intended admissions for the year commencing 1 September 2004 will be 120.

OVERSUBSCRIPTION

Where applications for admission exceed the number of places available, the following criteria will be applied, in the order set out below, to decide which children to admit:-

1          Children with a brother already attending the school who live

                        within three miles of it

2          other children who live within three miles of the school

3          children who have a brother already attending the school who

live over three miles from it

4           other children living over three miles from the school.

PRIORITY

In each category, priority will be given to those living nearer the school.   This will be calculated on the basis of a straight line measurement between home and school.

(The distance of three miles is mentioned only to define the categories; for admission in 2003 the school was again greatly oversubscribed and it was necessary to live within about 1.15 miles to be offered a place).
