The
main buildings are over 90 years old and symbolise a tradition of
successful education. The introduction of Local Management and, in
1994, Grant-Maintained Status enabled us to embark on a programme of
modernisation and, although there are still areas of the school that
we plan to improve, recent years have seen a transformation of our
provision.
New
buildings have included accommodation for Technology, a Library
Resource Centre, the Sixth Form and classrooms. Inside the original building, the refurbished Science
Laboratories and the Computer Suite head the list of improvements.
All of the boys’ toilets have been recently refurbished and
the governors have released funding to upgrade other neglected
corners of the school as well as to match the funding from a
successful bid to build and equip a multigym.
We
have obtained outline planning permission for a sports hall
but we have so far been unable to obtain the funding necessary to
build a facility that would support and extend the school’s
sporting ambitions and achievements.
The
introduction of more computers for class teaching emphasises our
determination to provide equipment that will prepare students for
careers in the modern world and the recent exciting extension and
upgrade of the network offers pupils state of the art experience of
ICT.
The
supply of textbooks and other teaching resources has not been
limited to the new and upgraded areas, so that all subjects have the
equipment to enable boys to succeed. |
