We
define bullying as the wilful desire to hurt, threaten or
frighten
another person.
We
believe that:
-
any
action that upsets the victim is a form of
bullying.
-
anyone
who is being picked on or victimised is being
bullied.
-
bullying
is not the fault of the victim.
-
pupils
at KNBS have the right to feel safe from bullying.
-
it
is not acceptable for staff or other pupils to ignore
bullying.
-
there
is no such thing as an innocent bystander where bullying
is
concerned.
At
KNBS, we recognize that bullying is as likely to take place
here as
in any other school.
The
issue of bullying is given a high profile in lessons,
assemblies,
small group or one-to-one interview sessions, staff meetings
and
staff development.
Every
pupil has frequent opportunities to talk to staff about any
experiences of bullying.
Teachers and Learning Support Assistants will
initiate these
opportunities as often as possible.
Staff
will listen sympathetically and take appropriate action in
accordance with the school's behaviour policy using
techniques
designed to help both the victim and the bully in the
future.
Pupils who fail to respond to attempts to modify
bullying
behaviour are likely to be excluded from school.
We
intend KNBS to be known as a place where bullying is totally
unacceptable.
