Charging and Remissions Policy (Summary)

The aim of the policy is to ensure that a rich and varied programme of activities outside the classroom will continue wherever possible.

When pupil excursions are organised, voluntary contributions are usually sought from parents. Parents are normally under no obligation to make a contribution to activities which take place during the school day as part of the normal curriculum and pupils are not treated differently according to whether or not their parents have made a contribution.  It is normally necessary, however, for parents to make a contribution to an activity if it is to take place outside the normal curriculum and outside normal school hours, including, where required, charges made for board and lodgings. If an activity cannot be funded without voluntary contributions, this will be made clear to parents.

At the Headmaster’s discretion, School Fund may be used to provide financial support for individual families and voluntary contributions from parents may be used for teachers accompanying the pupils.

The School may charge for, or require the supply of, ingredients and materials for practical subjects such as Technology and Food Technology if the finished products are to be consumed by the pupil or taken home.  Pupils will not be treated differently according to whether or not their parents are prepared to provide materials.
