It
is school policy to set appropriate work to be done at home
for the
following purposes:-
1 To
encourage the skills of research and independent study.
2 To
provide an opportunity for pupils to revise, use and
reflect on the skills and knowledge
introduced in school.
3 To
encourage self-discipline in the completion of extended
tasks.
GENERAL
PRINCIPLES:-
The
amount of homework will vary according to the age of the
pupil, with
homework demands likely to be greatest in the years
immediately
before Public Examinations.
Homework
tasks may include consolidation of classroom learning or be
free-standing tasks.
Pupils
have differing abilities and ambitions and should be set
appropriately differentiated tasks so that homework is
challenging
but achievable by all.
The
amount of homework set will vary according to the nature of
the
subject; some subjects need specialist equipment for much of
their
work; some subjects require a great deal of detailed
learning of
facts; some subjects demand projects taking some weeks
rather than
short homeworks.
All
homework tasks should be entered into a homework diary which
is
signed regularly by parents and checked by form tutors to
enable
frequent communication between home and school.
GUIDE-LINES
FOR PARENTS:-
Parents
are encouraged to support their son's work at home by:-
-
checking
and signing their son's homework diary regularly and
frequently.
-
talking
about school and work to show how seriously they take
their
son's work and progress.
-
encouraging
a regular homework timetable at home which fits
round
other activities or favourite TV programmes.
-
providing
a quiet venue with the facilities necessary to promote
good
homework
-
letting
the school know if they have any concerns about homework
as soon
as those concerns arise. (If
parental comments in the diary bring no evident
response,
parents are advised to write separately to the
Headteacher.)
