Business Studies
takes a detailed look at the way in which businesses in both private
and public sectors of the economy operate. It looks at the ways in
which they are financed and organised, their legal structure, the
ways in which they behave and the constraints which restrict what
they do. It considers the local, national and international contexts
in which businesses work and the effects that governments have on
their decisions.
Business Studies is
a subject which crosses traditional subject boundaries, that draws
on the skills and abilities of its pupils from a range of other
disciplines. It is a subject of today: alive, changing, challenging
and exciting. It is a subject which looks at tomorrow with
anticipation.
Business Studies is
not intended as a training ground for specialist accountants,
marketing experts or lawyers. It is not aimed at the business
tycoons of the future. Its strength lies in its requirement that
pupils should emerge with enquiring minds and the ability to
approach the problems of the business world in a logical manner,
able to make rational decisions, based on a sound knowledge of
business practices and procedures.
The syllabus
offered will be the AQA GCSE
in Business Studies (1411).
Assessment is
through three examination papers at the end of the course.
Paper 1 will be in
the style of a case study of a simulated business situation and will
consist of short answer and structured questions based on stimulus

Paper 2 will
consist of short answer and structured data response questions.
Paper 3 will be a
problem-solving exercise based on the use of given data
