Careers Education

At King’s Norton Boys’ School, we believe it is important to help young people to prepare for their future education, training and employment by making sound decisions in the light of their own identified strengths.  From Year 9 upwards, the Careers Education and Guidance programme seeks to provide students with good quality, up-to-date information about courses, qualifications and the world of work, to enable them to take responsibility for their own futures.

Careers Education & Guidance is supported and complemented by advisers from the local Careers Service.  Advisers offer independent, impartial information and advice to students and parents.

Careers Education is delivered by form tutors as part of the tutorial programme and is supported by Work Experience in Year 10.  All Year 10 students have a two week Work Experience placement in one of a large range of local organisations.  This enables the boys to develop personal and practical skills, as well as responding to the challenge of a new environment.

Sixth Form students have the opportunity to undertake Work Shadowing and other work-based activities in association with local industry.  A structured programme of Higher Education advice prepares students for continuing education after A Levels.

Approximately half of our Year 11 pupils return to the Sixth Form which is well known for its success in preparing boys for University and other Professional and Higher Education Courses.
