"Worlds Apart"

The characteristics of developed and developing countries, measuring development, international aid, tourism trade and development.

 

"People Everywhere"

The distribution of world population, population patterns in Kenya, the growth of world population, international  migration.

 

"Industrial Works" 

Employment structure and development, the UK car industry, changes m the nature and distribution of UK manufacturing industry, the effects of industrial decline.

 

"Guided Tours"

Visitor pressure and national parks, skiing in the Cairngorms, the pattern of tourism in the European Union, the effects of tourism in Majorca

 

"Off To The Coast"

Coastal erosion, transport and deposition, the formation of coastal landforms, the effects of rapid cliff erosion, coastal protection.

 

Specific Skills: Use of atlases, drawing sketch maps, graph drawing / interpretation ( bar, pie, climate, hydrograph and scatter), ICT (databases, spreadsheets, graph drawing, modelling), role play participation, photograph interpretation, OS map interpretation, satellite and false colour imagery interpretation, field sketching.

Assessment: Grade awarded for achievement effort and target meeting. See student's exercise book for details.

 

Parental Support / Extension Work:

Creation of a portfolio of newspaper  / magazine cutting on topics covered, watching, discussion of topical T.V programmes, recording BBC2 and Channel 4 "Schools " programmes including BBC 2's " Bite Size revision " provision of an atlas, use of OS maps on holiday, creation of a dictionary of key terms, testing knowledge of key terms.
