At KS/3, pupils study four main areas; Medieval Realms, The making of the United Kingdom, Expansion, Trade and Industry & Britain, and the Twentieth Century World. We also explore some extra areas in more depth; Roman Britain, The Development of Castles, The French Revolution and the Napoleonic Era.

Pupils are encouraged to work independently, using a variety of sources and producing work in a range of mediums. We hope to achieve excellent standards in pupils achievement by using traditional teaching and learning techniques as well as giving opportunities for other challenges such as Drama, Creative Writing, and looking at artefacts.

At KS/4, pupils follow the M.E.G Modern World Syllabus which concentrates on the absorbing history of our century, and stimulates a great deal of interest and debate amongst students.

As part of this course we usually give pupils the opportunity to visit the Imperial War Museum in London, and also Northern France and Belgium to explore the battlefield sites of World War I.

The department also offers two 'A' Levels for those wishing to study further, these are Modern History and Government and Politics. Both of these are popular and well established courses taught by an experienced and above all, enthusiastic team of specialists.
