The ICT department at KNBS is centred around three purpose built suites containing 32, 31 and 20 networked workstations. Our specialist Technology suite contains a further 22 PC's whilst Business Studies and the Library Resource Centre each have 9. Specialist satellite computers and laptops are situated around the school to cope with the requirements of each subject.
There are over 200 computers at KNBS of which 160 are available to students. The remaining 40 are used to support the ICT Infrastructure, for use by support staff and management in the day to day running of the school and by teaching staff for classroom preparation, research and administration.
Our network brings together the normally separate curriculum and administration systems to provide a valuable whole school network where information, data and resources can be shared. Strict security controls are in place to protect this data.
Peripheral hardware at KNBS is second to none. Each of our computer rooms is supported by a high-resolution laser and colour printer and many also have scanners. Our technology suite contains a plotter, vinyl cutter, engraver, CNC lathe and card cutter whilst our main ICT suites contain a 60” interactive whiteboard and projector. A portable LCD projector and screen is used for remote whole class demonstration.
Interactive whiteboards have also been installed in the English and Maths departments to support the raising of standards in literacy and numeracy.
The Media Centre contains our broadband based Video Conferencing solution and our industry standard video editing suite. Our Music Technology department contains 5 PC based workstations and a further 3 Atari ST based stations. All of these are used for music sequencing and composition.
